London Fashion Week A/W '13: Bora Aksu

After attempting to leave the house three times I headed out into a cold yet bright and sunny February morning only to get to the train station and realise I had left my oyster card back at home. So after the fourth time of walking back into my bedroom I finally managed to hop onto a train and head over to Somerset House for Day one of London Fashion Week.

Day one of London Fashion Week started a couple of hours later than last season, although I was grateful for the much needed lay in having been out the night before and not getting to bed until after 12. Bora Aksu was on hand though to wake me up and what a wakeup call it was, taking inspiration from the 1920’s Dancehall stars the Dolly Sisters Aksu offered up a modern day twist on the classical era. The ultra-feminine collection started off with a palette of Khaki, Greys, Whites, Navy and cream later ending in more vibrant hues of pinks and purples. For Autumn Winter ’13 the Turkish designer featured a mixture of textures and silhouettes from cinched in corseted waists to modern day flapper style dropped waists. Volume on the shoulders, soft leather, shearling pelts and loose flowing sheer baby dolly dresses layered over stunning scalloped edge beading, and the most stunning and intricate crochet head pieces altogether created strong and captivating looks.

The models wore their hair pulled back into plaited up dos and for the make-up it was kept simple with a fresh dewy complexion, defined eye brows, mascara and rouged lips.

New beginnings, Hello London (or Kent)

If you follow me on Facebook and Twitter, you'll have noticed I have gone all quiet recently. Well it's not because I have decided to give up on social media nor have I given up on my blog, you see after many years of going back and forth, procrastinating and spending hours weighing up the pros and cons I have FINALLY moved to London, well technically it's Kent but anyway I'm a whole lot closer to work now and I have already had a great first week down south. So let me fill you in on my first week in London ( or Kent)

So having said goodbye to my best friend Charly Last Sunday after she very kindly helped me to move
( what are best friends for?) I spent an hour crying / unpacking all my things. But instead of remaining sad about leaving home I decided to go out and explore a little, So I headed to my Favourite place in London Somerset House, home of London Fashion Week and host to some amazing must see exhibitions. I went to Tim Walkers Story Teller exhibition and indulged in his amazing work. Walker has long been one of my Favourite photographers, his images are so wonderful and captivating they're so surreal like dreams.I kind of wish I had I gone more than once but I ended up going on the last day and didn't really get any photos either, major fail I know.

So then onto last Thursday, quite possibly one of the greatest days of my life. I'm sure all of you who are Vogue/Topshop devotees will have heard of the Talk Topshop Hosted with British Vogue's Editor Alexandra Shulman, well I was lucky enough to help at the event as well as attend. To be in a room of fellow aspiring fashion journalists and to hear from Alexandra on writing her first novel 'Can We Still Be Friends', life in Fashion and to hear where she started off and see where she is now was truly amazing and so inspiring. To top it off I got to stand next to Kate Phelan Topshop's Creative Director and  ex Fashion director at British Vogue...AMAZING!

So there you have it just a few highlights of my first week, here's to more of the same coming soon Fashion season kicks off any day now so keep an eye out for all my coverage of LFW. Until next time Dolls I'm out xoxo

When it comes to collaborating with exciting young designers no one does it better than Topshop. Askill's stunning jewellery collection features hearts, clouds and panthers.Basically I have fallen in love with it and it is now on my wish list, I mean Xmas is only weeks away and the heart and cloud ring are only £25.
