After attempting to leave the house three times I headed out into a cold yet bright and sunny February morning only to get to the train station and realise I had left my oyster card back at home. So after the fourth time of walking back into my bedroom I finally managed to hop onto a train and head over to Somerset House for Day one of London Fashion Week.
Day one of London Fashion Week started a couple of hours later than last season, although I was grateful for the much needed lay in having been out the night before and not getting to bed until after 12. Bora Aksu was on hand though to wake me up and what a wakeup call it was, taking inspiration from the 1920’s Dancehall stars the Dolly Sisters Aksu offered up a modern day twist on the classical era. The ultra-feminine collection started off with a palette of Khaki, Greys, Whites, Navy and cream later ending in more vibrant hues of pinks and purples. For Autumn Winter ’13 the Turkish designer featured a mixture of textures and silhouettes from cinched in corseted waists to modern day flapper style dropped waists. Volume on the shoulders, soft leather, shearling pelts and loose flowing sheer baby dolly dresses layered over stunning scalloped edge beading, and the most stunning and intricate crochet head pieces altogether created strong and captivating looks.
The models wore their hair pulled back into plaited up dos and for the make-up it was kept simple with a fresh dewy complexion, defined eye brows, mascara and rouged lips.
